Key Things to Consider in Selecting an Orlando/Disney Vacation Rental
Selecting an Orlando vacation villa can be a tricky proposition, with so many variables to consider as well as a relative lack of standarization in these types of lodging products. Product, service quality and site location can vary significantly. While it is true that the Internet has provided a much greater window by which to evaluate vacation properties than in the past, you may still be rolling the dice with respect to many key considerations. I suggest that, in your quest, you consider the following points:
1. Location. Decide where you want to be in terms of the local map and proximity to attractions. Be mindful that you may find yourself in the boondocks, mired in traffic or otherwise in a poor location in relation to your points of interest. Do some homework on mapping and travel time to spare yourself disappointment.
2. Safety. If you haven't given much consideration to this issue, do. There are areas that are much safer and secure than others, and some less desirable areas may actually appear reasonably close on maps to key attractions. Do some homework on this point.
3. Unit Type. How many bedrooms and baths do you require. There are all manner and size of facilities. Even attached style units (vacation villas, condos and townhomes) may offer up to 4 bedroom and 3 baths. With unattached properties (single-family homes) the sky is the limit on bedrooms and baths.
4. Setting. Are you okay with being in a semi-residential setting? Or do you want the ambience of a more genuine resort setting? You don't want to find yourself next to someone with a car up on blocks, a boat in the front yard and worse. If you choose a single-family property, exercise greater care in finding out about the neighborhood. Leisure and residential can be a very poor mix.
5. Service. Is there any? Are there staff people on site, and if so, for how many hours? Is there 24-hour staffing? For ease of checking in, obtaining timely help, advice, or resolving a maintenance problem, how does it work?
6. Age. How old is the property? When was it last renovated? It's very good to know, as you probably don't wish to spend your hard-earned vacation in a tired has-been featuring furniture, appliances and TVs from the early Nineties.
7. Cleanliness. If you're like me, you'll want your Disney vacation villa, condo or home to feel spic and span. And you should have nothing less. While you can ask about cleanliness, it will probably be akin to going into a restaurant and asking if the food is any good. Of course it is. Your best bet may be seeking out reviews from previous guests, if they exist.
8. The Money. Obviously the amount you have to pay is paramount in all this. Of course you want as much bang for the buck as possible. But you also need to know about payment policy. Are you required to pay all in advance, or are the payments requirements more like a hotel? The latter is an obvious preference. Why pay everything in advance if don't have to? And pay by credit card. You'll have extra refund protection in the event of a problem. Refund policy is important to know before you commit. Are there any cancellation penalties, and if so, what are they?
These are some of the major considerations that consumers may wish to examine in choosing a Disney area rental property. Doing some advance research may make for an infinitely better vacation experience.
