Kidney Polycystic Disease - Best Diet For Kidney Polycystic Disease
If you or someone in your family has been diagnosed with kidney polycystic disease
, you know how important it is to start eating the right foods. For the purpose of this article, I'm going to assume you have some sort of kidney health problems and already have an understanding of the foods you need to avoid. It is my goal to help you balance your kidney diet by eating the right amount of protein, sodium, phosphorus, and potassium. If you have kidney health problems, you know limiting these substances in your diet is vital to your health.
Eating the right proteins for optimal kidney health
Protein is an important part of the diet because it helps build damaged muscles in the body. However, limiting protein in your diet, if you have kidney polycystic disease, is necessary for slowing the progression of your disease. A good way to consume the right amount of protein is to balance out your high value proteins with your low value proteins.
High Value Proteins
Protein from animals is called high value protein. Some good examples of high value protein would be red meat, turkey, pork, chicken, and dairy products. These high value proteins are typically easier for the body to use and are necessary for over all health. Try using thinner sliced meats in your sandwiches and filling them with more vegetables like lettuce, tomatoes and sprouts. Use thicker sliced bread to add more substance and make you feel fuller.
Low Value Proteins
Protein from vegetables or plants are considered low value proteins. Some good examples are beans, nuts, bread, rice, and pasta. These proteins are also important to your diet but need to be limited for kidney polycistic disease. However, these proteins are great for soups which is a good way to keep the protein levels down. Add rice and pasta to soup for bulk. This will make you feel fuller without adding a lot of protein.
The key to a good kidney health diet is the ability to keep the important, necessary ingredients in your diet without putting additional stress on the kidneys.
