Kidney Transplants
Kidney transplants refer to placing a healthy kidney in a patient's body to replace the diseased one
. Kidney failure is the most common reason which raises the need of kidney transplantation. Due to adverse effects of the modern lifestyle, the cases of kidney failure are increasing like never before.
A doctor generally recommends a kidney transplant prior to a patient reaching end-stage kidney disease. There are many factors which contribute to the kidney failure. Diabetes is one of them. High glucose level affects the kidney's ability to filter the toxic elements. Along with the diabetes, bone infection, TB, heart, liver or lung disease, high blood pressure, kidney tumor, smoking, over consumption of alcohol and other life threatening lifestyle habits can be causes for kidney transplant.
Kidney transplants have saved the lives of countless people. Kidney transplantation is like giving a person a second chance to live his life with a healthy and sound body. There are numerous advantages of kidney transplantation. It ends the need of routine dialysis and the negative consequences of this procedure, as well as the physical and mental problems of having kidney disease. Kidney transplant is the best option available to treat end-stage kidney disease. Unlike dialysis, it is a permanent solution to kidney failure.
Some patients avoid kidney transplants hoping they can rely on dialysis to fix the problem. However, this is not the case. Dialysis is a temporary lifesaving treatment with long lasting adverse impacts and limitations.
Dialysis causes many severe health problems such as nerve damage, infection, heart disease, bone disease, anemia, etc. Patients always feel fatigued after each dialysis session often taking a day, or two to recover only to, once again, go for their next session. The freedom of traveling and relocating is constrained. One's life is about going to the next session which is usually every other day and lasts for several hours. Not a wonderful way to live.
On the other hand, kidney transplantation gives a person a better quality of life. Compared to dialysis, it offers a healthier, longer life. Restrictions on diet are less than when undergoing dialysis. Life takes on a special, more wonderful meaning and a freedom to enjoy the years to come.
