Kids Activities For Stay-at-home Moms And Dads
Some people might think of a stay-at-home mom or dad as one that has all of their
time to dedicate to spending time with their children doing kids activities. Sometimes this is the case, but normally it is a multi-tasking job. There is housekeeping and laundry to care for, but more than that, some moms or dads work from home while they watch their children. It might sound impossible, but it is not all that uncommon.
If you are one that does have a job you do from home while watching your kids then you know how difficult it can be at times to get your work done and keep your children happy. You probably know that movies or kid's TV shows become habitual because it keeps your children content. Maybe you have been on the idea websites that are out there where there are numerous options for kids activities, but even that is a little overwhelming.
Something that you as a parent would be wise to do is keep it simple. Everyone cannot be super mom or super dad and come up with the best and most creative kids activities. Sometimes just taking twenty minutes out to read a few books is what your child will need. Other times, it might be coloring for twenty minutes at a time. The key is to help break up the day for your children.
Children on average have very short attention spans. If you find that your children get into trouble after about twenty minutes on their own then use that as a cue to you that it is time for you to step in and do a simple activity like coloring, reading, or even using building blocks. A creative activity like this is healthy for your child.
There is nothing wrong with your child watching a little TV as well. Try to stick with the shows that are simple in design. You do not want to over-stimulate your children's minds and have them be unable to nap when it is time. When they do watch a TV program, make sure it is teaching them something good whether educational or just about life.
Sometimes it might be a good idea to try some of those super mom or super dad ideas. There are some great ideas out there. You could find a craft, make cookies with them, or just get an empty box and let them decorate it.
You will be able to get your work done and spend time with your children. By doing twenty-minute increments, you are giving your children the attention they need, but you are also giving yourself the time you need. If you need to schedule it, do so. Schedule an hour of your work, and then plan on spending twenty minutes with your child doing one of the kids' activities that they enjoy. Work another hour letting them watch a show during that hour, and then spend another twenty minutes with them.
