Kids Costumes Medieval Party Games
Thinking up games to go with your kids costumes party can be tough
, so here are a few suggestions for your kids knights and medieval party games.
Evil wizard and the stolen sweets
You will need an old white or grey sheet, which has a castle wall stones drawn on it, draw on the stones yourself with a marker pen.
Either two adults at each end holding up the wall (not too high, just over the childrens heads) or a couple of high chairs to attach the sheet to.
You will also need a grapnel (something roughly hook shaped covered in foil), make this out of foil and cardboard attached to a length of string.
Some small prizes and a bit of blue tack.
A helper on the far side to fix the prizes to the grapnel.
A simple game for small children where they throw the grapnel over the enemy castle walls to capture the goodies inside. You build up the story as to how the evil wizard has taken all of the kingdoms prizes and has locked them away behind the castle walls.
Now it's the knights job to retake the prizes by using the grapnel to throw over the castle wall and the helper on the other side fixes the small prize to the end using the blue tack. When they get a small tug on the grapnel rope then they are ready to have the prizes pulled back over the wall and the kids will love their reward.
Excaliber and the Lake.
Arthurian legend says that King Arthur threw his magic sword into the lake, he did this to get at the treasures inside the lake. Here is what you will need.
A large blue sheet (for the water) or if not available then a suitably large area.
Some sweets and toys as prizes.
A plastic sword (or wand for fairies).
A helper, dressed as a water monster (a few strips of green cloth draped over would be ok) who is lying or kneeling down in the 'water'.
What the kids do is stand a small distance away and they throw the sword into the 'lake'. If the sword points to a toy or sweet then they get that prize. If it hits or points to the 'monster' then the monster is awoken (with much snarling and growling) and the kids all have to fight the monster (make sure soft weapons only, they can come keen). When the monster is valiantly slain then the child claims a prize. Game can be made easier or harder by the distance kids stand away from the lakes edge.
Castle Assault
Oh No! The evil black knight and his army are attacking your castle with rocks thrown from catapults. It's your job to defend the castle.
You will need the wall you made earlier from the Grapnel over the castle wall game.
Some balloons (3-4 per child) and small sweets/toys to fit in each balloon.
Two helpers.
Insert the prize into each balloon, blow them up and tie them off.
Tell the children that the balloons are really magical rocks that must not be allowed to touch the floor, and so they must be caught as they are thrown over the castle wall by your helpers. Either the kids can burst the balloons or they can be taken to their parents to sit on to burst them to reveal the prize inside.
Rumpelstiltskin and weaving straw into gold
Kids are familiar with the story of Rumpelstiltskin (maybe tell the story beforehand) and so this is their chance to help the poor millers daughter spin straw into gold.
You will need
1 ball of yellow wool per team, at least 3 teams
Short sticks to wound the wool onto
Prizes, I suggest Terrys Chocolate Oranges
Unwind the balls of wool, making sure that you have the ends of each of the balls of wool, use tape so that the end can easily be found. Mix up the wool so it will take some unravelling (don't go mad though). Give each team a stick then tell that that they have to work fast, taking it in turns to wind up the straw so as it can be turned into gold, give each child about 20-30 seconds to wind on the straw before shouting 'all change'.
A fast a furious fun game and the winner is the team who completes their ball the first and they bring it to you, where you magically turn the straw into gold or a terrys chocolate orange (your choice) behind your back.
