Hand washing can not be recommended enough to the person looking to keep their wool clothing intact. There is no risk of clumping, shrinking, or tearing when something is hand washed. Hanging them up to dry as opposed to putting them in the dryer is also a good idea, as it reduces the chances of the above risks as well.

Every retailer will carry different brands, colors, and types of wool so be sure that you comparison shop to get exactly what you want. Because the material is so delicate, you want to be able to get a type that will react exactly as you want it to when washed, dried, or even worn -- so choose carefully and compare your options. This way you will not have knit a whole sweater only to find out it is un-wearable later on.
