Know Buenos Aires, Argentina: Maria Eva Duarte de Pern

If you are a tourist a traveller, or a business man or woman spending some time in Buenos Aires, it won't be very long before you hear the name "Pern" on people's lips in connection with Argentina. These fascinating Perns have left their names and their marks for good or bad on the city, the country, and imbedded forever in the history of Argentina. You will find tours that take you to some of the landmarks that found fame during the Pern era.An extraordinary man himself, Juan Peron was also known for the fact that he had two extraordinary wives. One was his most ardent supporter and adviser, and the other followed in his footsteps and became President of Argentina after him.In 1943 young Colonel Juan Peron became minister of labour in a new government that came to power in a coup d'etat. He also rose to vice president. In 1944 there was a terrible earthquake in Argentina and he was given the task of fund raising to try and help the victims. He had the idea of mounting a "thermometer" in a highly visible position on the Buenos Aires Obelisk, or "El Obelisco de Buenos Aires" in the Plaza de la Repblica. This recorded the funds as they came in, for everyone to see.The fund raising effort brought great success and the people of Buenos Aires got to know and like Juan Peron through this.It was also through this effort that he came to meet a young actress by the name of Eva Duarte. In 1945 his highly controversial speech "from work to home and from home to work" won friends among the workers, but enemies among the elite. The latter had great power, and he landed in jail. For five days his newest and most ardent supporter, Eva Duarte, rallied support and demonstrations on his behalf. This resulted in his release on October 17th which later became known as "Loyalty Day". He married Eva a few days later. In 1946 Pern became President of Argentina. The Casa Rosada, a beautiful pink house which to be found at the eastern end of the Plaza de Mayo, is where the government was set up.Eva Peron worked at the side of her husband, encouraging and supporting him in the cause of social justice, and became the immensly popular champion of the poor and downtrodden. At the end of Juan's first term of office, in 1952 her life was cut short and she died of cervical cancer.Eva Peron's own particular impact was her support for the common labourer. She was a highly charismatic and sometimes controversial figure. The rich and elite hated her and felt their superiority and status threatened by this upstart from the lower classes, fighting for the rights of the underdog: the poor, the elderly, the disabled, the downtrodden. She also played a prominent part in women's suffrage, by helping to establish a feminist wing that focussed on the rights of women. She was dearly loved by those she helped and was soon known to them by the affectionate name "Evita".Whatever may be the purpose of your visit to Buenos Aires, you will find a fine selection of Buenos Aires hotels where you will be really comfortable.rentas ciudad de buenos airesguarantees comfort and all facilities on your tour to Buenosaires providingaccommodation in rentas buenos aires
