Owning a business requires a lot of things to be done and creating reports is one of them so that you may be able to monitor the progress of your business itself. There are actually several types of reports that you should prepare to ensure that you are accurately monitoring the things that are happening in your business. Make sure that you create all of these to ensure accuracy.
One of the most important reports that you should prepare is an executive report. An executive reports will serve as a summary of the main report and is suited well for non-technical readers. Also executive summaries are created for people who do not have the luxury of time to read the whole main report such as the executives of a business.
The steps in making an executive summary are as follow:
1. The very first step in creating an executive summary is to create a summary of the main report or whenever you are creating a report. This summary should not be less than four pages but not more than 1/10 of the length of the main report. In this way you will be able to easily prepare the executive summary.
2. After you have created a summary for the main report, you should enlist all the important items or fields that will be tackled in the summary itself. This is like a table of contents of a book. You should take note that you should list the item on their proper sequence or as they appear in the summary.
3. Define each main point with a single sentence. Take note that this summary is also intended for non-technical people so you better not include jargons.
4. The last step is to check for accuracy such as spelling and grammar.
5. Proof read the summary, or make somebody else read it for you and ask for their feedback.
