He wasnt aware that there is a lot of overhead that goes into breaking a new artist and he also wasnt aware that his type of music was not what the major labels consider commercial these days.

Had he taken the time to actually do a little research and network with some professionals on places like myMusicCircle he would have found out that an artist, such as he could manage to do his own recording from finding the person to engineer, the studio to do the recording, the cover design and the actual duplication and he would never even have to have left his house for the bulk of it. In fact he could have done that for about what it cost him to fly from the Midwest to New York stay in the hotel and then fly home. Not only had that but the entire sales needed to show a profit can be less in music industry, far less than the 100,000 needed by the record company.

He can sell his at a list price of under $10 in music industry where the record company lists are like $21.98 and he can show a profit even on a highly glossed and well produced top end independent CD after only a few thousand units and then it is all gravy money in his pocket and not that of the conglomerate record company. So, as you can see this fairy tale could have had a much different ending if our hero researched and networked and done the things himself rather than blindly going forth on faith.
