Know Your Cigar Smoking Options

There are lots of different cigar styles and sizes

. Even within the categories we're about to give you an overview of, there are almost endless variations. It can be a little overwhelming that there are so many options out there for you to try. Still, we aim to provide you with enough information to at least get you going in the right direction. First, we'll look at the different styles that are available. Then, we'll look at how the sizes are categorized.

There are two primary categories when it comes to cigar styles and sizes-Parejos and Figurados. Parejos are made with straight sides while Figurados include cigars with irregular shapes. With the category of Paregos, there are three primary subcategories, which include Coronas, Panatelas, and Lonsdales. Coronas are characterized by a rounded head and an open foot. This category may also include Presidentes, Churchills, and Robustos. Panatelos are usually thinner and longer than Coronas. Lonsdales are also typically longer than Coronas but thicker than Panatelas.

Coronas are also popular cigars, and they're available in quite a range of shapes and sizes. A petit corona is about five inches long, while a standard corona is about five and a half inches in length (with the same diameter). Corona extras are the same length, but have a wider diameter. A robusto is six inches long with a much larger diameter. You also have long coronas, toros, Lonsdales, grand coronas, Churchills, the giant corona and the double corona (almost eight inches long).

Cigar sizes are categorized in two main ways. One is by length, and the other is by diameter. Obviously, the longer a cigar, the longer you're going to be able to enjoy it. The larger it is in diameter, the more strong will be the taste. That last fact may have surprised you, but it's true. The same company can make two cigars using the same tobacco and the same methods, yet they could taste a little different simply because one is bigger around than the other.

Another thing that might help you find a cigar you like is the fact that some of the companies add additional flavor to some of them. Once you've found a certain flavor, tobacco, and size combination you like, though, you shouldn't necessarily stick to that one alone for the rest of your days. Branch out! You might find a few others you enjoy also.
