Cleaning an espadrille shoe
Espadrilles need to be cleaned by hand. Since most of these shoes are made of canvas, they need to be cleaned with a mild detergent and water. The jute rope can even be cleaned in the same manner.
The making of the shoe
Jute is used for manufacturing an espadrille. It is in fact a preferred material for the sole because it is eco-friendly in comparison to the synthetic substances. Jute soles include partially or fully vulcanized rubber underneath the jute fibre. This makes the espadrille shoes long lasting.
Manufacturing espadrille shoes is not an easy affair. Its make is in fact more complicated than the sandals. Jute rope soles are its most crucial part. The twines of jute are machine braided at first. Then the braids are made to form into the sole's shape and then pressed with the heat hydraulically so that it gets its final shape. Lastly, it's completed with the vertical stitches to give that final look.
Bangladesh produces jute of superior quality. It has in fact become the hub for manufacturing superior quality jute rope soles and thus espadrilles. About 90% of the jute soles or espadrille is manufactured in this country nowadays. The other manufacturers of these shoes include Spain, Italy and France but they also import the typical soles from the leading producer of jute, Bangladesh, in order to finish the shoes in their respective countries. Shoes of this variety are also made in Bolivia, Venezuela, Argentina and Paraguay.
