Known Causes For Skin Cancer

There are many health problems that the masses are facing today

. Some of these health problems have known causes and some of them do not. Skin cancer is a problem that is becoming more and more frequent amongst both children and adults. Luckily, there are some known causes for skin cancer which helps those who inform themselves to have a much better chance of avoiding it altogether.

Unfortunately, skin cancer can actually be hereditary. That is one of two known causes for this disease. If your family has a history with this unfortunate disease, it is even more important to pay attention to the other cause of this condition so you can further protect yourself. Just because this condition can be hereditary, it does not mean you will get it necessarily. Being aware of the other major cause will definitely help you to avoid it when the proper prevention technique is taken.

It is becoming more and more of a well-known fact that the sun is the major culprit behind skin cancer. The unfortunate thing about this fact is that people can't help but to love the sun. Basking in its light has beneficial effects upon both the mind and the body as well as harmful effects. It has been suggested that the vitamin B that can be absorbed from the suns' rays can help people to feel more energy. While that may be true, there are the unfortunate, negative effects of the sun's rays as well. The number one unfortunate effect is cancer.

Skin cancer is caused by UV rays from the sun. UV stands for ultraviolet radiation. This radiation has a way of damaging DNA in the body. Your body needs healthy DNA in order to repair itself from day to day. When your DNA is damaged, your body has a difficult time healing itself and it disrupts your body's genetic materials. This is what is thought to lead to skin cancer. While the sun does play a major role in the development of cancer, there are ways to enjoy the sun while protecting yourself as well.

Sunscreen is highly recommended by healthcare professionals to protect the body against the damaging UV rays of the sun. There are actually two different types of UV rays. There is UVA and UVB. In previous years, scientists were of the mind that only UVB rays were the culprits in creating skin cancer. In more recent years, it has been suggested that both UVB and UVA rays play a part in damaging your body's DNA and causing cancer. Finding a good sunscreen that protects your skin from both types of rays is incredibly helpful in preventing skin cancer from developing.
