What Krill Oil and Fish Oil has to Offer
In essence, krill oil and fish oil are the same in terms of the health benefits they provide. The two supplements are found to be effective in improving certain diseases in the heart. They are also helpful in helping alleviate mood swings and in promoting weight loss. The similarities of krill oil and fish oil in terms of health benefits all come from Omega-3 fatty acids that the two supplements both have.
Toxic Contamination Level between the Two
One aspect that needs to be considered when comparing the two supplements is the amount of toxic contamination. Water pollution is starting to increase day by day. Due to the increasing amount of toxic and industrial waste thrown in the seawater, the fishes consumption of high-level toxins is getting disturbing. Larger fishes are consuming the high amounts of toxins, especially mercury, thrown in the water. This, in turn, makes it dangerous to eat larger fishes or any kind of product that uses these fishes, like fish oil. On the other hand, krill is at the bottom of the food chain. Their only source of food is plankton. This means that krill do not consume the toxins that larger fishes do. This makes krill fish and krill products safer to eat.
Level of Antioxidants between the Two
An important content that krill oil has an advantage over fish oil is its antioxidant content. Krill oil is found to have astaxanthin, which is a very powerful antioxidant. This antioxidant is very helpful in protecting the oil that came from krill and preventing it from oxidizing easily. Take note that unlike fish oil, the primary composition of krill oil (phospholipids, omega-3 fatty acids and astaxanthin) are bound together. This means that they are not easily oxidize as compared to fish oil. The major benefit one can get from this is that it decreases and event prevents the formation of free radicals within the body. This will then helps increase the body's immunity.
Considering Additional Vitamins & Benefits
Aside from its primary contents, krill oil also contains other beneficial vitamins. Krill oil is also a rich source of vitamins A, D and E, which are not present in fish oil. Moreover, unlike fish oil, you will not taste any fishy aftertaste. This makes krill oil more pleasant to take as compared to fish oil.
When it comes to determining which is more beneficial (krill oil or fish oil), it is quite obvious that krill oil provides more benefits as compared to fish oil. Although it is more expensive as compared to fish oil, you can be sure that you get what you pay for with krill oil.
