Putting a finish to the monopoly of the private buses in Kochi

, the KSRTC had started its city service on Saturday. Transport Minister flagged off the 50 buses which have been named as Thiru Kochi at a function held in Kochi on July 16. The KSRTC buses will be plying on Aluva-Aroor, Aluva-Fort Kochi, Aluva-Poothotta, Aluva-Chottanikkara, Aluva-Pookkattupady-Thevara, Aluva-Thevara, Aluva-Kumbalam North, Aluva-Eloor, Ernakulam-Kakkanad-Kumbalanghi, Mattanchery-Thuthiyoor, Ernakulam-Cheranellore, Cheranellore-Tripunithura, Ernakulam-Amrita Hospital, Thevara-Kochi Cooperative Medical College, Panangad-Infopark and Willington Island routes. While 32 buses will be operated from the Ernakulam KSRTC depot, 18 buses will be based in the Aluva depot. It was after thinking about the long-standing demand by the Kochiites that the KSRTC decided to start its city services. The people there had been at the receiving finish of the frequent strikes and rude behavior of the private bus workers.
