LAPTOP REPAIR: NO INTERNET CONNECTION

You have bought a new laptop with wireless connectivity to work on a network and you see that after turning it on there is no connectivity. You went to see the router lights and everything seemed to be okay. It was working fine with the other laptop that you have. So, you are now in a mess and are looking for some laptop repair specialist. Get some technical support to learn more about the problem and fix it.

Even before troubleshooting, make sure that the service provider has configured the service so that you can use the wireless mobile broadband with the new laptop. Now that you have made sure that the new laptop should be working with the wireless internet connection, you can go ahead and check out a few things.

1) Is the wireless radio set to "on" in your laptop? Check for the wireless light.

2) Are you getting internet connection if you connect the laptop to the router with an ethernet cable instead of using the wireless function?

3) Are you getting NO internet connection at all in wireless mode? Or it is the intermittent connection that you are able to get?

4) Is the router compatible with the new laptop? If it is 802.11 G compatible and there is no such compatibility for the laptop as it is only 802.11 B compatible, then there is some real problem. Otherwise you can carry on with the steps mentioned below.

5) Shut down the computer and power off the router. Go for sequential booting of the router and the computer. It means, turn on the router first and check for all the LEDs on the router and then turn on the computer.

6) Check whether the computer is getting the router's internal IP address when you go to the command prompt of the computer.

7) If you go to an open network like Wi-Fi enabled caf, is your laptop getting connected? Is your own network name showing in the "Network And Sharing Center" page when you click on "view available networks"?

8) Does the device Manager show proper entry for your wireless adapter?

9) Is The TCP/IP protocol set functioning properly in the operating system?

10) Is your Firewall configured in a proper way?

11) Did you contact your internet service provider to check out whether there was any problem at their end or not?

12) Where exactly is your router placed? It should not be too far, where the radio waves will have to pass through curtains and metal bodies, which would reflect the waves. There shouldn't be any interference due to cordless phones or other electronic devices, which emit radio waves as well.

If you are already confused by now then do not really try out the advanced level troubleshooting and consult a help desk specialist instead. Do not jump into a decision that the laptop is of no use and it is better to replace it.
