This country has almost every kind of attraction for visitors including museums, beaches, gardens, palaces, etc. This article is about a great monument in Spain which is known as La Mezquita. La Mezquita is a monument which is one of its kind and there is no other such monument in entire Europe. This monument was constructed as a symbol to show the harmony and peace between the Muslims and the Christians. This marvelous monument was constructed with the hard efforts of many sculptors and architects.

La Mezquita was initially constructed as a mosque but later this mosque was altered into a cathedral. This great monument is situated in the Cordoba province of Spain. La Mezquita mosque was constructed by Abdurrahman during the tenth century. The interesting thing about this mosque is the unique collection of the architectural work of different civilizations. This mosque has the unique designs of Syrian, Gothic, Persian, Byzantine and Roman civilizations. These designs were changed during the past years but still this mosque is a great piece of architecture and intellectual efforts.

The most interesting thing about the La Mezquita is the arch of the monument. This arch is made up in the shape of a horseshoe and has the support of eight hundred and fifty pillars. Every single pillar has a unique architecture and design and these pillars are covered with marble and granite. At night, hundreds of oil lamps are used to light up the whole mosque which gives a very beautiful look to the La Mezquita during the night. The hall of the mosque which is used for prayer is designed to ensure plenty of light and air during the whole year.

La Mezquita mosque was converted into a cathedral during the year 1236. Later in the 14th century, Royal Chapel was built in the place and other alterations were also made to make it a perfect cathedral. A bell tower is also installed at a height in the place and the visitors can reach the tower to view the whole of Cordoba from the height of the tower.

La Mezquita is a great monument in the whole of Spain and you must visit this great place to enjoy the splendid architecture and art work of the historical times.
