Pop fans across the nation are going gaga for Lady Gaga now that the consistently bizarre-outfitted pop star's tour took off in Boston on Dec

. 2. Lady Gaga, aka Stefani Germanotta, performed the first night of the American leg of her hotly anticipated The Monster Ball Tour at Boston's Citi Performing Arts Center. While the venue is known for staging theater classics like Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera, there was no shortage of drama at Lady Gaga's show! "I'm a free b***, baby" were the first words out of Lady Gaga's mouth once taking the stage at Boston's Citi Performing Arts Center, following opening sets by Semi Precious Weapons and Kid Cudi. Wearing a glimmering silver leotard (what, did you expect her to actually be wearing pants this time?) courtesy of her own design team, Haus of Gaga, Lady Gaga performed the first song of the night, "Dance in the Dark." "Just Dance" and "LoveGame" were followed by a string of songs also including Gaga's other radio staples, "Paparazzi" and a bluesy version of "Poker Face."

During "Speechless," Lady Gaga turned down the turntables in favor of live piano, guitar, drums and key board. Fans were not speechless when Gaga asked them if they thought she was sexy, however, as they screamed in approval. Joked Lady Gaga, "I don't believe you...I'm kind of like Tinker Bell. See, if you don't clap for Tinker Bell, she dies!" After performing the final song of the night, "Bad Romance," a bloody video of Gaga getting inked with a heart-shaped tattoo on her shoulder was displayed on the giant screen. Ouch!

It should come as no surprise that the pop phenomenon was picked as one of Barbara Walters' 10 most fascinating people of 2009. This is the same artist who set her piano on fire and smashed wine bottles on the keys while performing her ballad "Bad Romance" at the American Music Awards, after all! And that is only one out of countless examples of Gaga's antics. For example, while across the pond performing at the Royal Variety Performance along with Michael Buble and Miley Cyrus, Gaga met Queen Elizabeth II wearing what can only be described as a red superhero costume, complete with an eye mask made of glitter.

It's hard to believe that under the elaborate Lady Gaga facade is really a 23-year-old former choreographer from Manhattan named Stefani Germanotta! After her infectious first single "Just Dance" made a splash in early 2008, Lady Gaga's debut album Just Dance arrived via Interscope Records and earned a Grammy nod. On the heels of releasing her sophomore effort, The Fame, earlier this year, Lady Gaga racked up multiple Grammy nominations.

Gaga's "Poker Face" will compete against Beyonce's "Halo," the Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling," Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" and Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" for Record of the Year, while the track (written by Gaga herself) is also nominated in the Song of the Year and Best Dance Recording categories. The Fame is in the running for Album of the Year and Best Electronic/Dance Album, and if you lost count that is five nominations for Lady Gaga!
