Lake Lanier Campground - All Cleaned Up

Lake Lanier Ga

Lake Lanier Ga. Offers many excellent camping opportunities. For starters, Lake Lanier's campgrounds as a result of Georgia's Governor Sonny Purdue putting the hammer down on the army Corps of Engineers, have become some of

the cleanest, safest, and well maintained system of campgrounds anywhere in the state of Georgia.

It is my understanding with talking to a handful of the current park rangers at Lake Lanier that there was a time when the campgrounds at Lake Lanier were so nasty, un-maintained, and dangerous that essentially family's would not even camp there. There was a time years ago that essentially the campgrounds were simply open un-guarded areas that would fill up with heavy drinkers and druggies looking for a place to hang out and party all night. One park ranger told me that before the Army Corps of Engineers came in and cleaned house, that there were even some camping areas that park rangers were scared to go to at night, now that's bad.

As part of a internet web site project I have been working on for LakeLanierHomes.ORG, I have been personally visiting every campground, day park, and restaurant around Lake Lanier Ga., and I have to tell you that I am more than impressed with the quality of the Lake Lanier campgrounds.

At every campground there are on site hosts that occupy a mobile home on the campground, with guarded and locked gates. Most of the couples that manage each individual campground and day park are older couples, and are just as friendly and welcoming as one could ever expect from older near retirement southern folks.

All the restrooms are well kept, and extremely clean. The grounds are kept up at an almost resort level. When you camp at these campgrounds, you see groups of kids somewhat un-attended riding bikes and scooters around the campgrounds which is a sign that obviously the parents feel a high level of safety at these campgrounds.

The campgrounds that are managed by the Army Corps of Engineers all have on-site laundry facilities, electrical and water hookups, and most have thirty amp RV plugs, and RV dump stations.

Every campground I stayed at offered a different variety of features. For example, there were some campgrounds that offered badminton and volley ball nets, some had excellent fishing piers that campers could sit out on at night with lanterns, and fish for those great tasting crappie or catfish, one campground in particular had a large children's play area equipped with the modern forts, swings, ladders to climb, and even a really nice small climbing wall free of charge.

Many of the campgrounds offered tent sites at strategically placed areas such as one of my favorites was a campsite where you could literally pitch your tent at the entrance of the fishing pier, drag out a one hundred foot drop cord, and hang fishing lights off the end of the pier for a highly productive night of fishing. There were tent sites that were so well shaded, and tucked away in wooded areas that if almost felt like you were out in a deep forest. Then there were also some tent sites where you could pitch your tent just feet from the campgrounds beach and swim area, which is perfect for those with children. The kids could play on the beach all day, and the parents could keep an eye on them while relaxing in their hammock at their shaded camping area.

So if you haven't done so yet, make sure if your in Georgia to take a camping adventure at any of the many Lake Lanier campgrounds, I can assure you, you most likely will not be disappointed.
