Lake Manyara National Park And Lodge Safaris

Lake Manyara National Park is a small park situated in Tanzania

. It covers an area of 320 square kilometers. The park lies at the foot of the western floor of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Manyara is a Masai word which refers to the Euphorbia Tirucalli plant grown into a hedge around the Masai homesteads. About 231 square kilometers of this park is covered by Lake Manyara which is an alkaline water lake. This alkaline water is an ideal habitat to a large flock of flamingoes and over 400 bird species such as the waterfowl.

The conservation of Lake Manyara National Park was to protect the elephants. These are found in large numbers in this park than in any other park in Tanzania. Apart from elephants, other animals commonly seen include the tree climbing lions, cheetahs, the Masai giraffe, hippos, baboons, blue monkeys and buffalos. The reason why lions in this park prefer resting and climbing on trees is not yet known. A safari to this park is ideal for tourists with little time to spare since two hours are enough to tour the whole park. In addition, the park has a mixture of vegetation which includes ground water forest, acacia trees, grass land, a swamp and the lake itself.

Lake Manyara has attractive scenery which allows tourists to sit and relax as they enjoy game viewing. Some of the activities involved in this park include; swimming, horse riding, safari walks, photographing, cycling, Cultural activities and canoeing. Moreover, you can visit Lake Manyara National Park any time of the year. Mto wa Mbu which means village "mosquito creek" is just near the park where most visitors stop to buy carvings at the large curio market. It is however good to bargain for better prices and also to avoid overspending.

Manyara Lodge Safaris is built near the park. This lodge offers excellent accommodation and delicious food. This lodge has big spacious rooms where you can view the surrounding environment. Dinner is prepared and served in the open bomas constructed by the Masai. From here you get to eat as you watch lions or elephants passing a few meters away from you. The cooks and tour guides are well trained in their work and afford their clients a lot of respect. You can tour Lake Manyara Park and then continue with your safari to the Serengeti and also to the Ngoro Ngoro Crater.
