Lake Worth Toyota Prius Dealers Stand Behind Abc Apology Demand
I dont think ABC would take it lightly if someone were to mess with one of their solid traditions
, such as sports coverage, unfairly altering footage and leaving out important affective details like that an athlete was on steroids or a judge was bribed?
Why, then, is it okay for ABC News, an established organization that should be trustworthy, to show Toyota vehicles in an unfair and even untrue light? And thats exactly what happened recently. Lake Worth Toyota Camry dealers are appalled at the treatment Toyota has received by the media.
Not only is ABC dragging its feet over an apology demand from Toyota, but has not even dismissed the reporter who basically just made things up. By the way, thats the first rule of journalism you cant just make things up. The second, of course would be never leave the r out of shirt or the l out of public.
I digress. Lake Worth Toyota Prius stands with the Toyota company in demanding an apology from ABC for the continuing saga of David Gilbert, college professor, who fake tested a Toyota to get it to accelerate unintentionally and not leave an error code.
The interesting facts later revealed were that Gilbert had rewired the Toyota car to get it to perform in this way, obviously not something customers are doing, and that he was paid by lawyers as a consultant on a case against Toyota. Then there is reporter Brian Ross who edited footage to make it look like the car surged ahead and out of control. It later came out that the tachometer was filmed while the car stood still. Lake Worth Toyota Camry customers are savvy enough to put two and two together here.
I just have to ask: What is going through the mind of a trained, professional, national reporter when he airs a story like this? Does he really think fabricating facts will lead to an anchor spot on the six oclock news? Perhaps it will in todays misguided media swamp, but really, where are our ethics?
No question: ABC owes Toyota an apology and, in good journalistic practice, should retract its story. But that likely wont happen because the major news media really doesnt have to be accountable to anyone except the powerful companies who own them and sign their checks. Surely Elijah Lovejoy and Horace Greeley are rolling over in their graves. Or perhaps print media standards and ethics just dont apply in this age of electronics.
So where does this leave Toyota? Judging from March sales (up 41 percent in the U.S.) and customer comment, which remain positive, sitting pretty well. Lake Worth Toyota Prius dealers are happy with customer response and hope that the backlash from the ABC story will convince even more buyers to consider Toyota and realize what great lengths the company has gone to in order to maintain its reputation.
