Lamkin Golf Grips

In 1925, Elver B Lamkin founded the Lamkin Grip Company in Chicago Illinois

, making it the nations first manufacturer of golf club grips. The location was chosen to make use of the quantities of prime hides available from the nearby stockyards. The company rapidly grew making the leather wraps for the countrys golf club manufacturers and became the major supplier of grips.

In 1963, Lamkin introduced the first combination of leather and rubber grips using injection moulding techniques for more precise grips. In 1980, synthetic materials were incorporated into the compounds to enhance the feel and durability of the Lamkin grips.

In 1985 the company sensing the movement of the centre of golf club manufacturing from the Mid West to the West Coast, re-located their corporate offices to San Diego, California. Following the re-location, in 1987 the company introduced a synthetic moisture resistant family of golf club grips.

In 1995, Lamkin introduced the first generation of the Crossline line of grips and the Crossline became the best selling grip in the history of the company. Following years of use of the Lamkin leather grips, the company formalized its relationship with Arnold Palmer in 1997.

In 2004 Lamkin announced its goal to raise $1,000,000 over 5 years to fight prostate cancer. As of 2008, they had raised more than $400,000 for this cause.

Also in 2004 Lamkin introduced the Dual Density, the first true high-tech grip designed to reduce torque and provide superior performance in any type of weather.

Lamkin Golf Grips is currently run by the third generation of Lamkins, Robert J. Lamkin, who became the president and CEO in 2000. Lamkin is manufacturing OEM golf grips for Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping, Nike Golf, Cleveland, Wilson and others. Lamkin is operating 2 golf grip factories: Tijuana/Mexico and GuangZhou/China.
