Lanier Ld-328c Color Document Server With Fast Duplexing

As the lowest end model in a three part series of digital multifunctional centers

, the Lanier LD-328c offers buyers a device with all the expandability options of a top notch unit with a small break in price at the expense of slower print and copy speeds. The units in this series come complete with some impressive features such as duplexing without slowdown and full color laser printing, making it a great choice for those with diverse printing demands.

With print speeds of 28 pages per minute in monochrome and 24 pages per minute in color, the Lanier LD-328c is definitely a step down from its big brother, the Lanier LD-345c, which tops out at up to 45 pages per minute. With a printer that is five years old, such as this, it is difficult to determine if the reduction in price is worth considering, as current prices will vary greatly. The units warm up time is constant through each model and maxes out at an unimpressive 99 seconds, while multiple copies can be made from a single source in quantities of up to 999. First copy out times are 10 seconds for monochrome and 8 seconds for color.

Print resolution is selectable up to true 1200 x 1200 dot per inch quality, but copies can only be made in 600 dot per inch mode. Optical scanning is also limited to 600 dpi with 256 gradations. The automatic duplexing in the Lanier LD-328c is quite outstanding, as it can print to double sided paper as fast as single sided, which is helpful in reducing overall paper costs by as much as half without any sacrifice in print speed.

The physical dimensions and weight of the Lanier LD-328c are quite large with a footprint of 26 in. x 27 in. x 34 in. and a total weight out of box of 264 pounds. With all the expansion options available as well, the unit could grow considerably in size. Luckily, included memory is also quite large thanks to a full 1 GB of standard RAM which is not expandable, along with an 80 GB internal hard disk that is shared throughout the unit for long term storage of frequently needed data. Also standard with the printer is a powerful 600 MHz processor.

If faxing is required, an optional fax module must be purchased separately. It operates at a fast transmission rate of only 2 seconds per page and a scan speed of .86 seconds by using a 33.6 Kpbs fax modem. The module also comes with its own 4 MBs of included memory which can be expanded up to 28 MBs. Special scan features include 2,000 quick dials and 100 group dials with up to 500 locations each.

Other expansion options include a booklet finisher that is perfect for making color pamphlets and single page leaflets, and a multi tray finisher that can staple up to 50 sheets at once. With so much hardware combined into a single device, the Lanier LD-328c is still a great value.
