Lapland and the animals that live there

Lapland is a whole region of Northern Europe, Lapland spreads out across the region of Northern Norway, Finland, Sweden and even some parts of Russia. Lapland is known as the unspoilt wilderness because it is populated with beautiful forests, mountains, lakes and waterfalls, making this part of the world simply breathtaking. Rovaniemi is the centre of Lapland's education and Lapland's other cities include Kemi, Tornio and Kemijarvi. Lapland is known for its nature and beauty and the Sami culture rests heavily around nature's principles. Pine is the predominant tree of Lapland, there are Spruce and Liken trees also but these are much less populated. Lapland is also known for its Rivers and Lakes which make Lapland so popular in the summer months for sports such as Fishing, canoeing and white water rafting. There is not a huge variety of species of animals in Lapland, however, the animals that live there are all the more interesting. The bear lives in Lapland's province area, wolverines and wolves can also be found in Lapland in the wild. In the forests and marshes lives the elk and of course there are the reindeer that roam freely in Lapland. It is a well know fact that there are more reindeers than people in Lapland and whether you visit in the winter or summer time, you will almost definitely see these beautiful creatures roaming free. The reindeer are owned by various people and will be herded to and from certain placed depending on the time of year. Reindeer are well adapted to the harsh conditions in winter and the warmer environment in the summer months. There are also squirrels, rabbits and the arctic hare is a common sight in the summer months. This oversized Rabbit quite literally takes your breath away the first time you see it, they are about the size of a small dog. Other animals include the Lemming, also referred to as the reindeer Mouse. Lapland also has the largest population of eagles in Finland and there are many species of small bird such as the Willow Warbler and the Meadow Pipit. There is no threat from any of the wildlife in Lapland, including Lapland's bear, simply because they are more afraid of us than we of them and it would be almost unheard of to see a bear whilst on holiday in Lapland unless you were to seek them out. Lapland has an abundance of beautiful sights and things to do and should be considered for a summer destination holiday for young and old.
