It is hard to imagine a time when a record label would give an artist anything close to seven million dollars to make a music video

. Today, artists often have to find the cash or fund the music videos themselves if they want to make one. Bands like OK Go have made videos for next to nothing, coming up with their own choreography and filming the video themselves which have gone on to become music sensations. With MTV and VHI playing less and less actual music videos, artists have to find cheaper ways to fund their videos since they are largely going to be downloaded and watched free of charge on channels like dailymotion and youtube. With that history lesson, here is a selection of some of the most expensive music videos every made, full of large fish tanks, elaborate sets and choreography, all of them above the three million dollar mark. Guns N Roses Estranged The longest song on Guns N Roses Use Your Illusion II the video was one of the most expensive ever made largely due to the song and video being over nine minutes long, with huge sets with SWAT teams, exploding oil tankers, trained bottlenose dolphins and stylish suicide attempts. The huge, elaborate scope of the video caused some critics to criticize it for being too overblown and cheesey, a sign of Axls increasingly growing ego and his indulgence in rock star excesses that the band had previously rejected. Puff Daddy Victory This elaborate and provocative science fiction video by Puff Daddy featuring Notorious B.I.G. and Busta Rhymes was one of the most expensive ever made because of its long running time, action film style and big name stars Dennis Hopper and Danny DeVito in large roles. The video takes place in the year 3002 where Gestapo-like forces chase a number of contestants in what appears to be a brutal, murderous game show. Busta Rhymes makes a strange appearance dressed in black feathers, rapping as a gargoyle statue overlooking the scene. It was strange and ridiculously expensive.
