Large or small, modern or traditional dining tables are back in a big way
We have busy lives. We cram more into our days now than ever before and often there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day. Sitting at dining tables is probably the last thing on our minds when we stumble through the door after another hectic workday. In fact sitting at dining tables is something many people will never think of. Here and now, I think we should introduce dining back into our lives. It doesn't have to be grand and luxurious it can be small and plain but a dining table is something that we all should have.
We see on TV period dramas where the family entertains guests at a table laden with the best china, more cutlery than you can shake, well a knife at! On the dining tables are steaming turines of food for guests to help themselves, the candles are always lit and the table dressed very elaborately. I'm not suggesting we return to that level of dining. A modestly set table with a takeaway on it could be deemed dining in the truest sense of the word. You can have a vast ornate table if you want and have the space, but many homes don't have the luxury of a separate dining room these days.
A small table for two could be set for a romantic dinner and that would still be classed as dining. We don't always have to think big when we think of dining tables. Tables come in all shapes, square, round and rectangle with some being hexagonal even. Solid oak, solid pine, veneered ash, glass or even marble-topped dining tables are all out there. The worst thing about dining tables is just having to pick one. If you want to match with other furniture then your choice will be easier, if however you are starting your dining space or room from scratch you have endless choice.
Essentially a table has legs as support and a top to rest things on, it doesn't sound very nice but it is what a table is. Naturally, you can have 4, 6 or even 8 legs or a pedestal and the tabletop can be a stunning solid piece of oak that you can linger over for hours. dining tables are functional and in some instances multi functional pieces of furniture. With space being at a premium in most homes, dining tables also have to double up as other things such as office or homework space. You may even use it as craft or sewing space.
Most homes have space for a table somewhere, many homes now have a kitchen diner and in some respects that is a return to a traditional way of using a kitchen. The kitchen used to be the hub of the house and in many homes today there is a return to that. We entertain at our dining tables and want guests to be comfortable enough to want to come back and share our food and our time. dining tables whilst not being essential are fairly vital in a home. Get a dining table today and you can be sat with that glass of Merlot chatting with friends over it.
