Las Vegas Activities: 7 Reasons For Buying A Grand Canyon Skywalk Bus Trip

Best way to experience the Skywalk Grand Canyon

? Take a bus tour. Fun, comfortable, and cheap, the bus is the only way to go. Here are seven more reasons why you need to add this trip to your list of things to do:

1. You get to see Lake Mead and Hoover Dam. These famous landmarks are on the way to Grand Canyon West. Get off the bus at the dam for photos. Drive over the incredible Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Bridge.

2. Experience the Grand Canyon Skywalk. The world-famous "glass bridge" hangs 70 feet over the edge and suspends you 4,000 above the Colorado River. Breathtaking views. Described by many as "gravity defying."

3. Take a helicopter ride to the bottom. The West Rim is the only place where you can do this. The descent to the base is 4,000 feet. Deplane and enjoy a Champagne toast. Explore the floor, home to some of the Earth's oldest exposed rock.

4. Ride a pontoon boat down the Colorado River. Board an adventure-class rubber boat and float the rapids of the river that continues making the canyon what it is today. Pack a bathing suit for a refreshing swim.

5. Explore an authentic Indian village. The Hualapai Indian Tribe, which owns and manages Grand Canyon West, offer a walking tour of authentic Native American dwellings, including tee pees, huts, and an amphitheater. Check out The Hualapai Market for handicrafts.

6. Buses are comfortable. Today's motor coaches come with huge cabins, over-sized windows, VCR's, and pre-recorded trip narrations in multiple languages. Bathrooms are clean. Seats are plush. Lots of legroom. And the restrooms are spotless.

7. It's cheap. Basic tours start at $94. This gets you entrance to the entire park. See Guano Point, Eagle Point, Indian Village, the Grand Canyon, the Colorado River, and much more. If you think you want to try the Skywalk, I strongly suggest you purchase tickets in advance as this will save you major bucks.

Las Vegas is only 120 miles from the West Rim. Luxury buses make the trip in 2.5 hours. Packages include free hotel shuttle service, a light breakfast, and BBQ lunch. Most of these tours require a half day. If you add a helicopter or pontoon boat ride to your package, expect to spend a full day. Book in advance: I suggest one to two weeks before you arrive in Vegas.

I also recommend purchasing your trip online. Plenty of times I've seen the costs of trips cut by 35 percent. Consider buying direct from tour operators. I do and I've never had an issue with my bookings. Remember to print out your trip confirmation email and take it with you to Vegas.

These are just seven reasons why I recommend you consider taking a Las Vegas Grand Canyon West Rim bus tour. But the bottom line is this: If you come out to Vegas, you've got to do the canyon. The proximity alone makes it nearly mandatory. Plus, the best place to experience this magical land is just a 2.5-hour bus trip away! So climb aboard. The time is now to experience this incredible National Park.
