Laser Hair Removal - Various Methods And Which One To Pick
When it comes to getting rid of unwanted hair on your body
, there are plenty of great laser hair removal options. Some of the most common methods available today include pulsed light treatments, diode, Nd:Yag, Alexandrite, and Ruby techniques. Each has its own positive and negative traits.
Intense Pulse Light hair removal uses pulses of light through the skin tissue. The powerful light reaches clear into the hair roots and vaporizes them. The entire hair follicle is also destroyed from the heat of the light.
It requires several treatments every three to four weeks, but there after the results are permanent. The down time is virtually nonexistent, requiring no anesthesia. Another plus is that intense pulse light treatments can be used on all skin types from fairest to darkest.
The Diode Laser method uses a laser to blast the pigment in the follicle and shaft. The heat produced by the absorption of the laser light seriously damages the follicle, preventing it from producing hair or at least from producing any more dark hairs. The results are permanent and it is effective for destroying about 85 percent of the targeted area.
One great thing about this technique is that it can destroy hundreds of follicles at a time. There can be some stinging or pain associated with this treatment, but it is not long lasting. It works best with pale to light brown skin.
Laser hair removal using the Nd:YAG technique is great for all skin types, especially the darkest complexions. The hair removal specialist first applies a carbon lotion to the skin which seeps down into the follicles. The Nd:YAG laser pulses are then directed at the follicles which damages or destroys them. More pain has been reported with this laser treatment than others, but it is good at treating largely hairy areas at one time.
The Alexandrite laser hair removal method is best for lighter to olive skin tones. The laser is used to rapidly pulse the skin, reaching down with its heat to the follicles. It has been described as one of the more painful methods, but it is very quick and effective. A large area of skin can be treated in just 30 minutes with permanent results.
Finally, the Ruby method is also good for only light to medium toned skin, not dark one. The laser pulses in this method directly target and destroy specific follicles. While this may take longer than some techniques it makes it less painful as well. The results will be permanent.
Deciding which treatment is right for you will be determined by your skin type as well as your tolerance for pain. Your hair removal specialist can help you determine which one will best fit your needs.
