I had big plans for this summer

I had big plans for this summer. Big, exciting plans which were meant to mark many special and momentous occasions and therefore needed to be celebrated in style. And to obtain the best style, London, of course was the main feature of my plans. Unfortunately, however, my plans were the type of plans where I'd been dreaming them up for months but not yet actually put anything into action, and I had somehow failed to account for the Olympics in my big plans... The huge Olympics in London this summer therefore overshadowed my big plans and made me re-think about how I can spend my special holidays. You see, this is the time I turn 21, graduate from University and then jet off to the other side of the world to start a year of travelling in Australia. I had been envisaging a fantastic celebrations and special occasions centralising around London as it's my absolute favourite place to be. But while I'd been busy planning my year of travels away, the Olympics happening back here had got pushed to the back of my mind so I then had to do everything a little last minute, while accounting for a rather large obstacle.

My main issue was that I wanted to book and stay in a hotel with my boyfriend and family. I wanted it to be nice but just to act as a base really, as I would be spending most of the day out and about in the city. Now often leaving it last minute to book a hotel in London, or anywhere for that matter, is a good idea as rates are dropped and you can find some fantastic deals. That's just not happening in London this summer though. Not only are the rates not being discounted, they've been raised to be at least double the usual price so finding a nice place for a good deal was just impossible.

So I did what I think many people are doing this year while looking for last minute hotels London- looked outside of the city. I was compromising my big plans a little, but I realised I didn't have to stay in London itself. I could just as easily stay outside of the city and travel in during the day, as I would have to travel around it during the day anyway.

I found the perfect countryside retreat. You wouldn't get something like this in the city! Stirrups Country House Hotel is sat in 10 acres of idyllic countryside in Berkshire while remaining close to train transport links at both Bracknell and Ascot. As a base it is perfect, but in fact I think I'll have a hard time tearing myself away! Best of all, the rates are incredibly reasonable even during the Olympic period so even with travel costs, I'll still be saving a tidy sum to contribute towards my plans, which I imagine, will still be pretty big.
