Lawn mowing is an important task while maintaining the garden. To mow the lawn, you can always hire a professional but you can do it by yourself as well. Although lawn mowing is not an easy task, however it is a great workout. To do this job, you need a lawn mower, basic knowledge about how to mow a lawn and a little bit of patience. Time required depends upon the size of the lawn. As we said, for mowing the lawn, you need a lawnmower of course. It would be rather difficult and even dangerous to cut it with a scythe. Moreover, it would take quite a lot of time. If your lawn is of rather small size, you can do with a reel lawnmower. For larger lawn, powered lawnmowers are best solution. Reel lawnmowers are less noisy and easy to handle. Electric lawnmowers are faster. In addition, they save time due to their mulching and grass catcher option. Riding lawnmowers are required for extra large lawns of about an acre or more. Before you start to mow the lawn, make sure that the lawnmower is in perfect condition. Look for any obstructions in the blade. To let its parts move smoothly, apply little oil to them. Blades should be sharp enough to cut the grass easily at one go. Depending upon the season and the type of grass, you need to maintain a proper height of the grass in your lawn. To get that height of the grass, it is important to adjust lawnmowers wheels. This can be done by handling few latches and switches given on the side of the lawnmower. Obviously you should read instruction manual first in order to be well aware of all the possibilities of your equipment. Its for your convenience as well as for your safety. Another thing you need to do before start mowing the lawn is to clean the lawn of things like loose stones, branches, bottles, cans, small toys, bottle caps and any other items that may be found there. These things can be caught into the blades of the machine or fly out at a high speed and hurt somebody. Also, take care of half-buried stones and the surface pipes. Avoid bumping in them while mowing the lawn. There should be some pattern in mowing. Avoid spiral moves instead go back and forth. It will create neat rows of mowed areas in the lawn. While mowing, maintain a fast speed otherwise grass would clog the blades. To mow around flowerbeds and trees, move in two directions, in two laps. Tidy up all the grass cuttings after finishing lawn mowing. Use a lawn rake to do this task. To clean the lawn mower, follow the instructions provided with the equipment. To prevent rusting of the blades and other moving parts of the lawnmower, squirt little oil. If you plan to mow the lawn, do it early morning after the dew is dried.
