Stripey, lush green laws typify the British garden. A little area of our planet where BBQs can be used, children can play and drinks taken. A bowling green finish underfoot is the elusive goal of many a gardener, but with a little preperation, thought and perseverance, the green dream can be seen.

Little and often is the watchword of the expert garden keeper, and the tools rquired to get the greatest looking lawns don't have to be high-priced and will give many years of service with a small amount of care and attention.

You probably already have a lawn mower, and cut your lawn often during the cultivating season. You may have even dabbled with lawn feeds and reseeded patches where grass is no longer growing. You may have even replaced parts of your lawn with cut turf where you struggle to get it growing back. What you may not have, are the pro's tools and gear.

Using a lawn aerator and scarifier are two such hidden weapons in your arsenal. You won't find them in everyone's garden shed, but those groundsmen whose job it is to maintain golf courses, cricket pitches and tennis courts in tip top condition would not be without them.

It's not like you have to be a Sunday morning slave to them either as they are just used now and again.

Why use a lawn roller? Garden rollers can be used to flatten areas of soil or grass. They may also be utilized to increase germination of recently sown grass and other seeds as they should always be pressed into the soil. This stops them from being blown away or eaten by birds. Drop spreaders drop the spreaders load evenly between the two wheels. The drop spreaders usually have adjustable setting to steer the drop rate. Broadcast spreaders flirt the seed out in front of the spreader and are very valuable for covering larger areas. You will have far more control with a lawn drop spreader, but if you have to cover a large area, then the garden broadcast spreaders will get the job done extremely quickly.

Lawn Aerators

Why is it important to aerate your lawn? Well, using a lawn aerator will mean that the air could pass through the soil and circulate through the grass roots as well as water and nutrients being able to reach the grass roots more quickly. Lessened air levels and restricted air circulation in the soil means that the grass roots are not as able to take up oxygen. Lawn aerators will also increase water, oxygen and nutrient uptake by the grass roots.
