Leadership training, organization management, productivity

I do a lot of work with leadership training and organization management. I made a connection the other day to a constant state of mind that I come across sometimes while training leaders of organizations. I was driving to the zoo with my girlfriends two little girls in the back seat and about halfway there, I started hearing this chant from behind me Are we there yet? I smiled as they repeated it over and over in a singsong rhythm, cracking themselves up.

How often are we unconsciously chanting that same mantra? As business leaders, we set goals, cast vision, train staff and wonder are we there yet? Even in our own personal development, we are continually working on improving our listening, our public speaking, our writing, our expertise When engaging any transformational process, I find myself quickly defaulting to this conversation when will I be done?

It is rare to find a person who can truly give themselves to the journey, the process, without wondering when theyll be there. How can we imbue our teams with the reality that we never fully arrive? While we certainly meet and hopefully exceed our goals, there is a large element of continually transforming our organizations to be the vision and live the values that is never complete. There are always new moments, new customers, new dynamics in the marketplace that call us into new territory. We find ourselves looking for a map when really a compass is whats needed.

Orienting ourselves as leaders and our teams to seek and receive feedback, adjust, shift and go again is a key component to a developing a flexible and highly functioning team. Its a rigor that we can choose to engage with passion, learning and enjoyment.
