. Mark Twain once said that living in the world without traveling is like owning a book without reading it. Without traveling, you miss out on a whole treasure trove of opportunities to see the world around you. In this article, I'll be going over some top tourist destinations on the East Coast of the United States. The East Coast is rich in American history and culture.

To start off your trip, a great place would be in Virginia. This is one of the places the first settlers came from England. Here you can see their way of life and how they had to struggle against the elements. One place in particular, Jamestown, which was settles in 1607 gives a spectacular image of how the early Americans lived, as the town is preserved to illustrate as close to reality as possible their way of life.

Next stop up the coast would be Washington D.C. Filled with stunning monuments and breathtaking museums, Washington is a top spot for tourists from all over the world. You can easily spend weeks wandering around the famous Smithsonian museums, which are filled with breathtaking displays representing all sorts of fields from art to aviation. And don't forget the many monuments in Washington, which are a testament to the foundation of the United States.

Boston would be another great stop along your journey up the East Coast. Another city filled with U.S. history, you can go on a self guided tour on either the red line or the blue line, which takes you on a walking tour through the most significant historical sites of the city. If you like hanging out with the college crowd, you can go to many of the trendy restaurants and cafes which are near the restaurants.

And it goes without saying that no trip back east would be finished without stopping at the Big Apple. New York is one of the most visited cities in the world for many reasons. No matter what your taste, be it museums, stock market action, or stunning architecture, you'll find it in New York City. One major reason plenty of people come to New York, especially from overseas, is to enjoy one of the many Broadway shows available. Some of these shows are so popular that they have been playing for twenty years or more.

No matter how much time you have, taking a trip up the East Coast can be a wonderful experience. You'll learn much more about American history and culture, and you'll bring a whole new outlook to your life.
