Learn All You Need to Know about Having an Ovarian Cyst

The term ovarian cyst sounds quite scary, but the reality is that this condition

is not particularly dangerous and can be treated effectively and permanently. This condition is common in women who are in their childbearing years and it has not yet been discovered what specific factors cause it. Although the problem cannot be prevented efficiently, the regular gynecological check up will give you the peace of mind that you need. The ovaries are two organs of the reproductive system that are positioned in the lower abdominal area. Their main function is to release an egg each month, but sometimes this does not happen. These egg cells are formed in small sacs that are supposed to dissolve, but sometimes they stay in the tissue after the release. In these two cases an ovarian cyst may be formed. The sac filled with fluid remains in the ovary and usually does not reveal its presence in any way. Still, when it is twisted or ruptured, a dull or sharp pain in the ovary can be felt. Other symptoms that are associated with the ovarian cyst condition include irregular menstruation, pain during sexual intercourse and bloating. Nausea and vomiting may also be present. The standard pelvic exam performed by a medical specialist and the checking of the organs with ultrasound will immediately reveal if the ovarian cyst is present. In the majority of cases especially when the woman is young no specific treatment is required as the formed fluid-filled sac will go away on its own. However, a type of surgical intervention may be necessary for the removal of the cyst. The incision is made in the abdominal area and a tiny tool along with a camera is inserted through it. Then the sac is removed. Another commonly prescribed treatment is with birth control pills which helps provide for the relief of the symptoms and prevents the formation of new ovarian cysts.
