Learn Guitar Speed and Learn How To Shred

I'm sure that you have heard many songs where the guitar player plays an amazing solo with incredible speed and you want to know how it is done. Listen to "Eruption" by Eddie Van Halen and you readily see what we are talking about. It's not easy to attain this level of playing, but it is not an impossible task.

With practice and effort, you can be on your way to playing burning guitar solos with incredible speed.

Beginning guitar players often think that trying to learn speed or shredding guitar solos is too difficult. The truth is that a new player is in a better position to train for speed than a seasoned player. Why? Because the novice player is able to gear their playing towards learning speed while a seasoned player might be too set in their ways to learn new techniques.

In addition to learning how to play the guitar fast, you will also improve your playing in areas such as:

Scales

Finger Strength

Timing

Tapping Techniques

Finger Exercises

Hand Flexibility

Increase Speed Between Playing Scales

And Many More Areas

If you want to play ripping guitar solos similar to players such as Eddie Van Halen, Dimebag Darrell, Trey Anastasio and Steve Vai you must increase your finger speed for this to happen.

A quick exercise to increase speed is to learn a basic scale forwards and backwards. Here is a sample of a simple Blues Scale that begins on the A note:

Low E-string: Frets 5 and 8

A-string: Frets 5, 6, 7

D-string: Frets 5 and 7

G-string: Frets 5, 7 and 8

B-string: Frets 5 and 8

High E-string: Frets 5 and 8

Once you get the scale down get a metronome and set it at a slow pace. After you are comfortable playing at a slower speed, you can then start to increase the tempo of the metronome.

Do this in small increments and raise the tempo each time. After you reach a comfort level playing a basic scale at a faster pace, you will get used to playing faster and increase your finger speed within the scale.

Once again, increasing your guitar playing speed will definitely take time and practice. As you get a basic understanding of how to play faster, you will soon be on your way to playing some great shredding solos.
