This is an area where we can always improve. Time does not wait on anyone and the older that I get the more I realize this. Now at this stage of my life it seems as if there just are not enough hours in each day. The days just seem to melt away into years. I am very good at managing my time but I can always do better. There are so many more things to do and not enough time in which to do them. We need to use every trick at our disposal in order to make better use of the time that we have remaining on this earth.

I am basically a lazy person but one thing that I found out was that if I did not take care of business things would stay totally jacked up. The result of this was that projects and life was a total mess. I learned that the best thing that I could do was to finish all assigned tasks as quickly as possible. When I did it gave me more time to sham if I wanted to. It put me in control of the situation instead of the situation being in control of me.

One thing that I had to learn was the word no. There are times that you can do too much for people. People don't seem to appreciate you when you bend over backwards for them. Learn how to say no. You should not let others put their problems on you. I'm sure that you have enough of your own.

Don't let disorganized people slow down your day.I had a job oce where I had to take reservations on the phone. It was surprising to me how people would attempt to make a reservation with none of the documents that they needed on hand. I would have to sit there and lose precious, valuable time waiting for them to get their things in order. If it is at all possible do not let disorganized people waste your time. I learned in that job to tell them what they needed ahead of time. If they weren't ready after that I would put them of and move on with my other business. This helped me out but it didn't totally eliminate the problem.

The best way to manage your time is to prioritize your day ahead of time. You need to know what your schedule entails and be ready to deal with it. If you take just a few minutes to think your day through before time it will save you a multitude of trouble in the long run. I learned that doing this would help me to avoid a whole boatload of unecessary problems. List each task that you will have to accomplish individually. Then number them according to their importance. Take care of the most important ones first and go down the list. This seems to work well for me. It may work well for you also.

If you are a manager or supervisor learn how to use the right people for the right job. This is crucial. When you give responsibility to an incompetent person you have to waste much valuable time going back and rechecking their work or repairing the mistakes that they have made. The person who shines in one area may be absolutely rotten in another. The right person in the right place will pay off with serious interest.

Many times bad decisions cause us to make costly mistakes which waste time. Be decisive, but dont make rash decisions. Take all of the time that you ave available to make your decision whether its five minutes or twenty minutes. I have learned that a good decision will save you a lot of time and trouble in the long run. Every decision will not always be the best but it has to be the best possible under the circumstances. I always try to make decisions which will solve multiple problems at the time. The timing of your decisions is also important. He who hesitates is lost but the same can be said for he who moves too quickly.

Have you ever dealt with a person who is always late. Some people will never be on time for anything. The way that I handle these people is to give them a time an hour ahead of what I actually want. Most times this does help but you have to apply it on a case by case basis. Riceland Enterprises
