Vitiligo is a skin disease whose symptoms includes appearance of white milkish patches on skin
, premature hairs discoloration, affected skin mucous membrane and retina of eyes. The disease affects 30 to 40 million people with the percentage of 1 to 2. The chances of appearance of vitiligo are equal in both male & female with no age and race bar.
In the early stage of the disease the vitiligo lesions are very little in dimension and limited to specific skin areas but after some time they turn into larger and widely spreads all over the skin areas.
Causes of vitiligo
There are many causes of the appearance of
vitiligo white patches. Many people get involve in vitiligo from their birth as a natural vitiligo. Other reasons of the vitiligo are heredity, deficiency of nutritious factors in skin, immune system disorder, sun exposure, usage of medicines without the doctors advice, by wearing dark color cloths in winter, by changing the atmosphere (transfer from one country to another),
Depigmentation (absence of melanin cells) in the skin is the major cause of Vitiligo disease. With be similar to to depigmentation, many other internal / external factors like heredity, hormonal fluctuations, autoimmune system disorder, stress, scarcity of nutritional factors in body, sun exposure, excessive usage of drugs, antibiotics and getting time to time vaccinations etc are also consider the causes of Vitiligo.
Types of vitiligo
There are two major types of vitiligo skin disease
1. Generalized vitiligo
2. Localized vitiligo
Generalized vitiligo:
Vulgaris: Scattered macules in symmetrical, or in widely distributed order on whole body.
Natural: Universally a person has been found in this disease.
Mixed: Segmental Vitiligo associated with vulgaris or acrofascial.
Acrofascial: Appearance of white spots or patches is very limited to face, hand, feets, and hairs.
Localized form of vitiligo:
Segmental Vitiligo: Appearance of one or more depigmenting macules in specific area of body, instead of whole body.
Mucosal: Only mucous membrane is affected in this type of Vitiligo.
Focal Vitiligo: Appearance of white milkish spots or patches on one skin specific area.
Treatments of Vitiligo:
There is no
vitiligo cure that is claimed by American Vitiligo Research Foundation, AVRF. Treatments which are given to patients of vitiligo are simply cooperative in the reproduction of skin melanin cells . different treatments that are specified to patients includes psychotherapy, homeopathically treatment, oral psoralen therapy, topical psoralen therapy, PUVA treatment, UVB treatment, Chemotherapy or light therapy, Ayurvedic treatment etc.
