Learn Hypnosis Fast
Achieving hypnosis , therefore , is a matter of directing this suggestibility that
we all possess into the channels that may finally produce the hypnotic state. It can be much more difficult than this reason in several cases, but let us use this as a working grounds.
Everyone can be hypnotised. The time required for achieving hypnosis will vary from subject to subject. We will discuss some of the explanations for this in a subsequent chapter but for our discussion at this time we want to understand this point. I have run across countless people who were very disappointed because they didn't respond to hypnosis immediately or after several attempts. They wished to know "what was wrong." A reason that nothing was wrong somehow did not satisfy these people. "After all," they argued, "did not I'm going to a hypnotist especially to be hypnotized?" Some insinuated that maybe the hypnotist was not very good.
Let me explain that most subjects must be conditioned for hypnosis, and this conditioning is helped when the [14] subject practices certain conditioning exercises that I shall discuss in detail in chapter six, titled "ways to Attain Self-Hypnosis." In my teaching, I've found that about one out of ten subjects reacts to the 1st attempt at hypnosis. One can't make a definite statement re the time period necessary to learn self-hypnosis, but it's my experience this usually takes about one month. I've had subjects learn self-hypnosis in about half an hour, but I must also relate that I have worked with subjects for one year before they achieved it.
For the most part, the laws of learning apply to self-hypnosis as with anything more that one would wish to learn. It could be a comparatively straightforward process, or it can be really perplexing. The answer lies not so much with the hypnotist as with the topic.
One question that arises is : "if i'm under hypnosis, how can I give myself suggestions?" in the hypnotic state, it has got to be recollected, the topic is always aware of what is occurring. He hears what is said, follows directions and cancels the state when told to do so. In the self-hypnotic state, the topic is in full control. Therefore , he will be able to think, reason, act, criticize, suggest or do whatever he needs. He will be able to audibly give himself suggestions, or he can psychologically give himself ideas. In both cases, he doesn't rouse from the hypnotic state till he gives himself specific suggestions to do so. Many feel if they audibly give themselves ideas, they'll "awaken." In hypno-analysis, the topic answers questions during the hypnotic state. Having the subject talk doesn't cancel the state. You can keep the chatty subject under hypnosis as long as you would like. Similarly, the subject can be sitting erect with his eyes open and still be under hypnosis. Carrying this further, the subject might not remember that he is [15] under hypnosis. He can be given a cue not to remember when the specialist makes a certain motion or claims a certain word that he's going to go into the hypnotic state but still keep his eyes open. Only a professional hypnotist could detect the change.
Another frequent question is : "How do I awaken myself from the self-hypnotic state?" You merely say to yourself that upon counting to 5 you will open your eyes and wake up feeling fine. Many times the subject falls asleep while giving himself posthypnotic proposals. This is not unattractive since the recommendations will spill over into the unconscious mind as he goes from consciousness to unconsciousness.
A popular point of view about hypnosis is that the subject surrenders his will to the hypnotist in the midst of being hypnotized. Similarly, many believe that once the topic is hypnotised, the hypnotist has total control of the topic and the topic is powerless to resist recommendation. Both beliefs are erroneous. I believe the 1st myth comes from seeing techniques where the hypnotist requests the topic to have a look into his eyes. The hypnotist advocates to the subject that as he continues to take a look at his eyes he's going to fall into a deep hypnotic state. This, then, becomes a matter of who can outstare whom. The topic sometimes begins to blink his eyes and the hypnotist follows this up with rapid ideas that the subject's eyes are becoming watery and heavy and the subject will fall into a deep hypnotic sleep just as soon as he ( the topic ) closes his eyes. This procedure gives the impression to the observer the subject is "willed" to go under hypnosis. It would appear that once the hypnotist concentrates or wills satisfactorily, the subject succumbs. In fact the hypnotist in this method isn't looking into the eyes of the subject. [16] He fixes his attention on the bridge of the nose of the subject.
