Learn Islam- Through Goodword Islamic Books

My First Quran Storybook by Goodword Books introduces the Quran to young readers. It is intended for children between the age group of 6 to 12 years of age.At this stage, minds are impressionable. Therefore colourful pictures are also used in this Islamic book. We can better appreciate or understand the messages of the Quran as we follow it with pictures.

The book consists of 42 easy to read Quran stories. There is a moral value along with each story. There is also a Quran reference for each story at the end of the book. The Quran deals most commonly with the ignorance and cruelty of man. Man's refusal to listen to God's message through the teachings of the prophets forms the basis of many stories.

Other themes that are explored are cruelty, the importance of family values, undertaking journeys in the service of God, how good fortune should not be taken for granted, how adversity is often a test of man's faith in God etc.

Themes of equality and the importance of the Hajj are explored in The First call to Hajj'. The Hajj is the annual pilgrimage which believers take, when they bow and prostate themselves in prayer before the Kabah. Rich and poor, old and young undertake this pilgrimage. It highlights the equality and the brotherhood of man.

Adversity or misfortune as a teacher of man is explored in The Most Patient Man'. The Prophet Ayub is blessed with great wealth but loses it all due to adversity. He also loses his children to disease and is himself bedridden for a number of years. Later he recovers his fortune and lives to an advanced old age. In this way we are taught to continue believing in God despite bad times befalling us.

Faith in Allah as being the only thing that can save a believer in this world is discussed in a story on the life of Prophet Ibrahim. People of his time who rejected his call, bound and threw him into a fire when he destroyed their objects of worship. However God makes the fire cool and Ibrahim is saved. We are thereby taught that faith enables us to overcome even imminent physical or bodily destruction. This is one of many stories on the Prophet Ibrahim in this Islamic book for children.

Themes of death and rebirth are explored in The Prophet Uzayr's Donkey'. Here Prophet Uzayr and his donkey lose their lives when Uzayr wonders whether a city that has long been without life and is in ruins can be restored by God. Uzayr and his donkey regain their lives a hundred years later. In this way we are taught never to question the will of God and also shown that nothing is impossible by the will of God.

We are also taught to believe in the Hereafter and life after death. These are some of the important stories discussed in this book, aimed at creating an interest in the Quran in young minds. We learn of different features of village life in Yemen. For example we learn that quality swords and daggers are made in Yemen and that these can be very, very expensive.

Children also learn about writing and of how after Yemen embraced Islam people began reading the Holy Quran and of how the Arabic script quickly replaced the traditional system of writing.

Devotion to God is taught through a section on minarets. Mosques are an Islamic gift of God to all Muslims, through which they can express their devotion to Him. Minarets are an important part of mosques all over the world.Children are informed of the evolution of the minaret and of its many types. Thus children learn of how the traditional way of life links people directly with their past.

Crops are integral to the livelihood of people throughout the world. Wherever you may live you ultimately depend on crops for your livelihood.Children learn that for thousands of years mountain villagers have been growing crops in narrow terraced fields and of the particular importance of coffee.

The other books in this series are modeled on a similar pattern.

These books are taught in schools in India, the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, South Africa, Nigeria, Malaysia, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia etc.
