The year is 2110. While people with artificial brains are still few, they are increasing and seem to be doing very well. Of course, no one can really say whether they are really the same person or not, but emotively they respond perfectly normally. Like you, all of these recipients had a fatal brain disorder, and while a brain transplant could mean death for the genuine human who is the patient, they were going to die anyway.

Computers were restricted to the use of strictly binary technology.

Of course not everyone obeys the law and humans who are rich enough undergo all sorts of transplants under fake licenses. Governments are secretly developing super cybernetic brains. And as in Blade Runner, cyborgs exist among us and are hunted down. Could this be the future? Quite possibly so.
