Learned A Lesson From Losing Money
Hardly anybody wants to lose money. Most of us aren't satisfied with keeping what we got either; we want more. But, in fact, money does not work like that. Money is not tangible, nor is it static. Money is an oddity and it's in your best interests to not get too emotional over it. The fact is, there are plenty of valuable things you can learn from losing money, some of them quite liberating.
To start on equal ground, while it may seem a tremendous burden to fall into the poorhouse, have you ever really considered that it is just as much if not more of a burden to maintain the standard of living you now enjoy? And just to throw in a little interest for the more adventurous among us, did you know that there are no shortage of famous tycoons who had to suffer through bankruptcy several times before finally making those immense fortunes that are still alive and well today?
But the main affect of loss of income is on quality of life, and the result of that can be quite surprising. First of all, in my humble opinion, money in and of itself is extremely deceptive. It's not how much you have really as how you use it and what you have to do to maintain an income. And on the dark side, we all know that are people who will do just about anything for money, but we'll leave that out of here. Money may be the root of all evil, but it was people who created money in the first place.
More often than not, the more money you have the more that is expected from you. Some people seem to live lives close to zombies to maintain high incomes and material wealth and prestige. I'm sure the majority of the poor believe that could be happy if they just had enough money. A lot passes unnoticed through these peoples' lives.
But I can offer a testimony. I once made a middle class income and had a pretty fun job along with it. I was pretty happy with the whole lifestyle as a matter of fact. And then certain events happened to me- bankruptcy for one- and I ended up on welfare for a while. I want to stress, however, that while I was on welfare I didn't stop trying to start a new business: I was busy every day. But luxuries were out and simple things were in. I learned to live without a lot and live on a budget of a few dollars a day. But at the same time, I became happier than I've ever been in my whole life. Ah, but that had nothing to do with money?
