Wanting to play and master an instrument with eighty-eight keys is a bold and difficult dream attain. The sound of the piano makes it attract all kinds of people to want to play it. Perhaps its appeal is its versatility, since it is capable of creating all types of music styles including pop, rock, jazz, classical and country.

Whether you're learning how to play piano chords for the first time, many people experience an emotional connection when playing. The piano as many professionals describe it, is more than an instrument, it's another means to express themselves. The players that become good are the ones that play the piano with a passion.

Progress can be slow sometimes, especially when you're just starting out, but it's important to persevere. No one becomes good straight away and even talented players started as beginners. To become talented, you have to put hours into practice on a daily basis.

Get as much practice as possible and avoid spending all your time learning just the theory on how to play piano chords. Mental visualization can definitely improve speed of learning and is an excellent way to get practice in when you don't have access to a piano.

When using imagery you need to make the imagined experience as real as possible. See yourself sitting in front of a piano and feel your fingers on the keys. Many professional musicians practice visualization techniques, not to mention sports players and anyone who realizes how powerful creative imagination is. The use of mental visualizations is an age old tool that has been used by anyone that knows how powerful it can be.

Avoid burying yourself in books since learning theory is useless without constant practice. You may feel strange and clumsy when just beginning on the piano. This sensation is a very normal experience. As time goes by, you'll gradually become more relaxed and accustomed to hand positions. Don't feel embarrassed to play, even if you do sound like a broken piano. Everyone sounds bad when they first play the piano.

If you're beginning to play the piano, invest in at least a keyboard if you can't afford a piano. A used keyboard in good condition will do. If you plan to get a piano at a later date it's better to buy a keyboard with weighted keys. Keyboards which have weighted keys will feel more like real pianos instead of the synthesizer style keys.

Whether you decide to get a piano later of have a chance to play one, the transition from weighted keys will make it less noticeable. Electric keyboards with 'synth' keys can feel tacky and unrealistic. In an ideal situation, getting all your practice on a real piano is best, however there are a few benefits that electric keyboards can offer.

To start, there's a handy volume switch which will keep the noise down, so that you can play anytime you want. They have built in metronomes which are essential for keeping rhythm and time. Tuning a piano is no easy task, but you'll not have to worry about that on an electric keyboard. Another good point, is that keyboards are portable, making them easy to transport. A piano is still a better choice despite the advantages of a keyboard. Most pianists would agree that a piano is just incomparable.
