- Explore the art of applique. The applique is done by attaching and sewing a shaped fabric onto another to create designs and patterns. It can also be done by overlapping these pieces of fabric. They are generally sewn but you can also bind them together with adhesive and you can do the applique by hand through sewing or gluing or by machine as well.

- Explore designing your quilt with embroidery. You can also incorporate embroidery into your quilt design, in fact, most quilters use embroidered design into their quilt pattern to enhance its beauty. Embroidery can be done by hand but with the new technologies, it can also be done by embroidery machines as well. Of course, if learning how to quilt is an enough challenge to start with, of course, you can learn the embroidery later.


- Choosing your fabric. If you are just learning how to quilt, you may want to start with a 100% cotton fabric. Cotton fabric is easy to work with so you can start with it. - Quilting can be done by hand or by a sewing machine and the choice depends largely on your preference. You can do it by hand if you want to preserve the tradition of hand quilting, but you can also do machine quilting as well, which is a lot easier and faster.
