Learning To Play Pool

The game of pool has several different names and can be played with the same balls and sticks in many different ways

. Some other names for this game are eight ball, bigs and littles, highs and lows, and stripes and solids.

It is very popular all around the world and can be found in homes, teenage hangout spots, bars, and certain workplaces. Many people know how to play and have knowledge of the general rules of the game.

There are competitions for amateurs and professionals. Some of the variations include Alabama eight ball, crazy eight, English eight ball, last pocket, misery, Missouri, one and fifteen in the sides, rotation eight ball, soft eight, standard eight ball, and others.

Of course the standard game is the most popular and the one that most people are familiar with. It is played with sixteen different balls that include one cue ball and fifteen object balls.

Seven of them have a bold color stripe around the center of it while the other seven balls are solid colored. The cue is solid white and the eight ball is solid black.

First you need to rack up all the pieces together in a triangle so that they are all touching each other. It is kind of like setting up bowling pins except they are a lot closer together.

You need at least one stick to play with. If you only have one, then you can share with the other person playing with you since both players never try hitting the balls at the same time.

You place all the balls on top of a table that is shaped like a rectangle and has raised sides to keep the pieces from falling off. There are six pockets with four in each of the corners and one on each side on the longer ends.

These pockets are meant to catch the game pieces. Each person or team playing (there are only two people or two teams that can play at one time) is going to try and get either all of the striped pieces or all of the solid pieces in the pockets.

It does not matter which pockets you put them in. As long as you are the first one to put away all of your pieces in the pockets first, then you have a great chance of winning.

After you hit all of them into the pockets, then you must focus on getting the eight ball into a pocket. But before you do that, you must call (tell your table mates) which pocket you are going to hit it into.

If you then hit it into the correct place, then you win the game. But if you hit it into a different place that you did not call, then you automatically lose.

Even if the other person, or team, still had all of their pieces on the table, you could lose if you hit the black eight into the wrong hole. It is definitely the hardest part of the whole thing and can be the most frustrating part is you mess it up.

The table has a playing surface that is about nine feet by four and a half feet. But there are certain places and tournaments that sometimes choose to use a smaller table that is seven feet by three and half feet.

Some place and leagues will enlarge their table and use a table that measures ten feet by five feet. You want to only practice on the size table that you will compete on because it is very hard to switch back between all of the different sizes and the size changes all of your angles and shots.

In addition to having all of the balls different colors with solids and stripes, they also have individual numbers. They are numbered like this; numbers one and nine are yellow, numbers two and ten are blue, numbers three and eleven are red, numbers four and twelve are purple, numbers five and thirteen are orange, numbers six and fourteen are green, and numbers seven and fifteen are brown.
