The other way is self-taught which with persistence can be achievable. There are many free sites available on the internet today that will help you when you are learning by giving you helpful hints.

First though it would be very helpful to you if you got to know just about everything you can about the acoustic guitar. By learning how all the parts work in producing the great sounds of your acoustic guitar it will help you to understand a little of what is required to play well.

You must also learn how to tune you guitar, if you are unsure then you can purchase a guitar tuner and practice with your guitar, then try and tune it yourself and see what the difference is, this will help you immensely in being able to listen to the different sounds.

Make sure that when playing the guitar you posture is correct this will help you achieve the best results and will stop you from developing bad habits. You know the old saying "if at first you don"t succeed, then try and try again" this is so true because to play the acoustic guitar well, you must have a positive mental attitude, it is so easy to become despondent and tell yourself you will never be any good, but you must always be confident, step by step you will play and play well, you just have to believe it.

The most important thing to remember is practice makes perfect, so practice every day for as long as you can, make sure you learn lots of different chords and variations, familiarize yourself with the frets on your guitar, this will also help build up the strength in your fingers as at first these are something that you will find will ache, but will lessen as time goes on. Take regular breaks when practising, this will help you to produce quality sounds instead of bad sounds.

If you do find you hand aches and you are frustrated because you want to practice more than it is a good idea to exercise your hand by squeezing a tennis ball, this is great for building up the strength in your hands and you can do this exercise whilst watching the television.

Talk to other musicians about playing the acoustic guitar and take any advice they can give you, listen to what they say and then put it in to practice, you will find you pick up more useful tips this way than by any other way at all.

Above all be patient, remember Rome was not built in a day, do give yourself time to accomplish each step as the rewards will be definitely worth it.
