Learning To Reduce Stress With Simple Techniques

Our lives can become very busy with a number of different things that demand our time and attention creating a great deal of stress in our lives

. Learning to relax is essential for stress management and your basic health. Basic techniques for relaxation are easy, often free or low cost and have very little risk associated. Anyone can benefit from learning different techniques to relax whether your life is high or low stress.

One easy way to help relieve stress is called "toe tensing." This is a process of alternately tensing and relaxing your toes. Simply lie on your back with your eyes closed and relax your feet and position of your toes. Feel your toes, pull all 10 toes up towards your face and count to 10 slowly. Then relax your toes and count to 10 slowly again. Repeat this 10 times. Doing toe tensing can actually draw tension from the rest of your body and doesn't take very long. Try it today.

Visualization is another way to help relieve your stress. To try this method, find a place to lie down or sit and try to relax your body by forming mental images of peaceful calming places. Take a journey mentally through these places. During visualization, try to use as many of your senses as you can. Think about how the place looks, feels or smells. Some calming places can also include taste (if your calming place is a local coffee or ice cream shop). Loosen any tight clothing and let your mind and your memories of peaceful places calm the rest of your body.

One of the most common methods to help relax is deep breathing. You can do deep breathing anywhere and in any position, but it is best to lie on your back and slowly relax your body. Inhale slowly through your nose. You want to fill the lower part of your chest first, then the middle and top part of your chest and lungs. Do this slowing while counting to 10 in your head. Once you fill your lungs and chest, hold it for a second or two before quietly and easily letting the air out through your mouth. Repeat the cycle. If you are getting dizzy, it can be a sign that you are overdoing it and need to slow down. Deep breathing allows you to concentrate on just the breathing and the rest of your body will relax because your focus is direct elsewhere. This can help you get your body back in sync.

Other common techniques include Yoga, exercise, meditation, massages and so many more.

By learning and practicing relaxation techniques can help slow your heart rate and lower blood pressure. During times of high stress it can also improve your concentration, reduce your anger and frustration and boost your confidence to handle problems better and healthier. Stress is a part of everyone's life learning to deal with it in a healthy way can have a positive affect on your health and life for years to come.
