Learning a Little More About Morton's Neuroma
Learning a Little More About Morton's Neuroma
Actually, Neuroma is a condition where a person experiences great pain because of a thickening of nerve tissue. However, when you talk specifically about Morton's Neuroma, it means the pain you have in your foot is between the third and forth toes. Owing to its location, it is also known as an intermetatarsal Neuroma.
How it occurs.
Most people are completely unaware of this condition, and those who have heard its name know nothing about its causes. What you should understand is that anything that causes irritation or compression of the nerve can cause Neuroma. Now, it can happen with anyone, but of course, there are some people more prone to having this particular medical condition. For instance, shoes with tapered toe box can create problems if worn for long time. Similarly, those who are in love with high-heeled shoes may have to deal with Neuroma at some stage in life.
Those people are also vulnerable to this particular medical condition who are engaged in such activities where they have to put pressure on the ball of the foot. However, it is also quite important to mention that some people come with specific foot deformities; the chances of suffering from Morton's Neuroma are quite high in these situations.Hammertoes, bunions, and flat feet are some deformities where risk for developing this medical condition is quite high.
What You Need to Know:
It is true that anyone can become a victim of Neuroma, which is why it is important to educate yourself a bit more about the way this medical condition progresses. Almost in all cases, a person starts noticing different symptoms and sees them getting severe gradually. They bother you intermittently in the beginning, and you experience pain usually when you wear narrow-toed shoes. When you don't pay attention to these symptoms and signals, things start to take a nosedive.
It is also common to try to relive your foot using different methods. Massaging the foot, for instance, is one common solution. However, unless you treat your condition in the right way, you keep having similar issues after some time. Over time, the symptoms start getting worse - pain increases and persists for days or weeks. As the Neuroma enlarges and pain becomes intense only then many people come to know how severe the issue has become. This is usually the time when your nerve gets damaged permanently.
The crux of the matter is that if you are experiencing serious pain and cramp-like feeling in your foot, especially in first and fourth toes, this may be due to Morton's Neuroma. It takes some time for this medical condition to damage your nerve completely. Therefore, it is important that you react to the situation almost immediately. So, don't waste time and consult with your physician to eliminate the risk of having Morton's Neuroma.
