One of the most exhilarating experiences one can experience is water skiing. Once you learn how to get up and maintain your balance, you're basically speeding across the water on two durable sticks. To the left, you might see an expansive lake with boats, fisherman, and the horizon. To the right, you might see the shoreline with small beaches, beautiful homes, and people enjoying lunch while sitting on large rocks at the edge of the lake. Ahead of you, you will find the boat that's pulling you. Your job is to let the spotter know if the speed is correct. If you're comfortable with the speed, give him the Ok' sign. If you want the boat to go faster, give him a thumbs up. If you want the boat to slow down, give him the thumbs down. And if you happen to wipeout, immediately clasp your hands above your head and tread water while they turnaround to pick you up. The clasped hands above your head doesn't just let them know you're alright, it's also to alert other boats in the area that you're there. It's a good safety precaution, one that should be taught to anyone learning how to ski.

Before you get up on two skis, you might find yourself frustrated. You should expect to fall face first into the water several times. Contrary to popular belief, this doesn't hurt. It's actually more fun than anything else. It also makes the experience more rewarding once you get there. And once you get up, it will only be a matter of time before you're jumping the wake, placing the rope between your legs, and skiing with one ski. These are all part of the joys of learning how to ski.
