Learning the art of website design and other technical jargons
The other day, I saw my son, a cute 10-year-old boy, seated patiently in front of our computer for more than two hours. I popped over to have a look, thinking that he was probably playing the newest computer game but was shocked to find that he was actually changing the design on his blog. He told me casually that his teacher had taught them website design during their computer lesson.
I was feeling pretty ashamed since at the grand age of 36, my knowledge of building websites was basically a big fat zero. I decided to spend the next few weeks studying how to build a website. Initially daunting, I actually felt intrigued by it and am proud to say I have just completed building my first website.
One of the first things that I learnt was that the website design should not be too distracting. In addition, it was important that the text should be easily readable. This means that the font size should not be too small and the font color should not clash with the background color.
You will probably need to find a hosting site to host your website. It can be done for free on websites like wordpress or you can actually self-host it by paying a relatively small fee every year.
The next step is probably deciding what your website is going to be about. Is it a personal blog or is it meant to be something commercial to sell a product for instance? For personal blogs, I guess it's less complicated and you just need to make sure your content is interesting enough for people to want to read.
However, if you are going to create a website for commercial reasons, then it's fair to say you need to spend a bit of time understanding terminologies like SEO, CRM development and adp services.
For those of you who have purchased things from the Internet, the term shopping cart should be pretty familiar to you.
If you are like me who knows every little about web design and all its complexities, you might want to hire a professional company such as phoenix web design to build your website for you. They can create custom programming to suit your needs.
In addition, if you are keen to market your website, you can also obtain a database of potential clients' information. You can then sell your website or your product to these clients via the Internet.
While there are many technical jargons that seemed very complicated at first, be assured that it's really not that difficult to understand the art of web creation. The fact that someone like me who has zero knowledge of web creation can actually create a website on my own after two weeks of studying just goes to show that if there's a will, there's a way.
