Kids learn best when they are having fun and children's books about a variety of topics help them to have fun and learn at the same time. Of course, if such books are to hold the attention of their small readers they must be written in a way that is attractive and have lots of pictures to enhance the text.
For instance, there are many kids books written about animals of various kinds. These usually but not always - show the animals in their home environment and tell briefly about their habits. However with such animals as working dogs the topic is much broader as there are so many different working dogs from all over the world and they do a great variety of tasks.
Dogs have been used over the years to help man hunt, herd, and carry goods. They have been and still are used to protect herds from predators and to rescue people lost in the snow. Modern day dogs are used as guard dogs, to guide blind people and sniff out drugs. But perhaps the quality most often sought in dogs is the simplest one that of loving companionship.
Children who have the benefit of a doggie companion to play with and look after will certainly learn while they are having fun. They learn to be responsible in caring for a creature that depends on them for all its needs. In return they have the joy of playing with a dog that loves them no matter what they do to it.
Many good-natured dogs are very long-suffering when it comes to the children in their households who poke at them and otherwise treat them somewhat roughly. But children eventually learn the right way to treat their dogs and usually develop a loving relationship with them that lasts for years.
