A specific example was how the American and British culture embraced the use of leather in making their clothing.Over the past decades, leather jackets really had something to say about being on top of the fashion line. Its style had evolved greatly with time. The years 1950's and early 1960's was when the subculture of leather jacket was greatly put into the limelight. This subculture was portrayed in movies like The Lords of Flatbush and Grease. "The Fonz" in Happy Days, a famous sitcom during the 1970's, even more exposed the use of leather jackets as a promising trend in fahsion.The leather jackets that were tailored for a casual garb carry along with it the label of "toughness" and "masculinity". It also serves as a banner for camaraderie among certain individuals.The 1940s and early 1950s depicted a different type of subculture, which was then known as the bombardiers. Its style was utterly unique as fashioned by the neck collar made out of sheepskin. The known "bomber jackets" served not only the purpose of fashion but protection of its wearer from low temperatures with its interlining made out of sheepskin.Leather jackets are popular wardrobes among policemen because its perfect to portray a macho image suitable for the tough and brave peace coordinators. It also became a staple in their wardrobes which resulted in the creation of another subculture. Its design is made in such a way that it acts both as an apparel and an armor, the latter for situations that calls for protection usually from harsh weather conditions.Eventually the leather jacket has lost its popularity today due to the new fashion trend that entered the scene. However it has created an enduring iconic trademark in the western world. It continues to pose an overwhelming stimulus as it is easily identified as a symbol belonging to the different eras of subcultures it once coexisted with.The fashion scene never ceases to change its style and preferences; however, it cannot be denied that leather jackets never lose its glamour. Every now and then, its beauty and class continues to exude amidst the crowd of new trend.
